Ten Songs That Make You Sad

Tears in Heaven - Eric Clapton - A song written after the tragic death of his son. It must have been therapeutic for him to get out his grief in this manner, though I'm glad he's retired it, so he doesn't have to dredge up those feelings every night just to entertain the masses.

Over The Rainbow/Wonderful World sung by Israel Kamakawiwo’ole - His version of the song is both beautiful and haunting at the same time. I guess it makes me sad because it was used so effectively on ER when Dr Green died.

Alone Again, Naturally - Gilbert O Sullivan - The lyrics to this one make me want to throw myself off a tower like the guy in the song.

Hurt - Johnny Cash - I liked the NIN version of this song, but it was given so much more weight sung by Johnny Cash. You can feel the pain oozing out of him as he nears his death. The video makes me very sad, seeing his wife looking down on him with a sorrowful gaze.

Forever Yours - Jorn Lande - A breakup song. It's reminds me so much of my ex and the feelings I had after the breakup that I can't even listen to the song anymore. What a voice this guy has.

Cat's In The Cradle - Harry Chapin - I think every guy who has relationship issues with their father can identify with this song.

When She Loved Me - Sarah McLachlan - This one is mainly because of Toy Story 2. The scene is so sad, and the music for it is perfect. I remember seeing this movie for the first time, and the girl I was with at the time elbowed me saying "Don't make fun of because I'm crying" before realizing I was crying as hard as she was.

Moonlight Sonata - Beethoven - My favorite piece of music ever. Powerful, beautiful, and very sad.

Amazing Grace - By Anybody who can sing it well - It's a standard at funerals, and always reminds me of those that are no longer with us.

Unfamiliar Moon - Vance Gilbert - Another one that reminds me of my ex. A very sad song about losing someone. I've never seen Vance live where at least a few people in the crowd weren't brought to tears by this song.

This can't be my house
How can this be home?
I don't recognize it
Anymore
Each step to the front door
Is higher than I've known
It's like climbing up a mountain
'Cause now I climb alone
Now that there's no you
Everything is new
Like this unfamiliar moon

Heartbreaking.....

You big softy... You know I love your sensitivity. I'll have to brace myself for a while, psych myself up before even attempting to answer THIS meme...

Where can we hear Unfamiliar Moon by Vance Gilbert? I can't seem to find it online so far, but it sounds good.

I've been trying to upload the song all night, but it's not working for me.. :( I'm at the mercy of the wi-fi gods, and I guess with the weather, I'm not getting a good enough signal. (when you're stealing, beggars can't be choosers i guess) I must have hit upload 50 times. If you want to hear the song, you can sign up for a free trial at www.emusic.com You get something like 20 free downloads with the trial. There is a Vance Gilbert concert on there taped from Schubas. (I was there) Unfamiliar Moon is on that show. I signed up, downloaded the whole show, and then canceled my free trial. Bingo! Free Vance concert.
